An informal series of lunch meetings for colleagues at the Mathematical Institute of Leiden University. We will share practical experiences with AI in research, teaching, and beyond. Staff, postdocs, and PhD students are welcome.
Next meeting: Generative AI in mathematical coursework
How can generative AI be incorporated into mathematical homework and classroom discussions? This one-hour, interactive session will bring colleagues together to compare approaches, share examples, and discuss what could help students learn effectively.
In small groups, we will discuss and design assignments that use AI productively. For instance, students could use an LLM to assess their own reasoning and give feedback or work through a complicated argument. Can we facilitate this sort of engagement in a productive manner through homework? How do we make sure students actually benefit and do not engage in “cognitive surrender”? Contributions and questions are welcome, whether or not you already use these tools in your teaching.
Help choose the time
We are looking for a one-hour slot during Monday 12–Friday 16 October 2026, between 11:00 and 14:00 each day (Leiden time).
Indicate your availability in the poll by Tuesday 6 October. Please mark all the times you could attend. We will choose the most convenient one-hour slot. If it works well, we may use the same day and time for later meetings this semester.
